The first section that I like was John Dewey and Progressive Education. This section talks about some of the components of Progressive Education. One of the components are accepting the interest of children. Dewey believes that children can learn better when they are interesting in something. The first resorce I found was www.uvm.edu/-dewey/articles/proed.htm. This particular website give addition information on progressive education. The web site also goes in more details than the text book. The second resorce I found was a video at www.youtube.com titled Progressive Education in the 1940s. This a 7 minute video on progressive education in the 1940s. I choose these two website because of their information and it relates to the text.
The second section in the text that I like was Black Americans: The Struggle for a Chance to Learn. This section talks about the struggles for African Americans encountered trying to receive education. I like this section because it show me personally where blacks come from and It makes me appreciate education more. One of the resources I choose was www.findarticles.cts.com/p/articles/mi-993626/15-200110/ai_n8958575-34k titled Education of African American Students: The Struggle Continue. This website tells how African American students are still struggling for education. It also shar the history on blacks pursuit for an education in a white society. Another website I choose was www.infoplease.com. This is anthoer website that is similar to the text. I choose these resorces because it agrees with the text and add additional information on the struggle of blacks for education.

I liked the YouTube Video on Progressive Education. I think the idea of considering the children's interests when planning activities or assignments is a very valid concern. I know when I'm interested in something I will keep reading or watching until I have found or heard all the information I can.
ReplyDeleteI also chose Progressive Education as one of my topics. Teachers should take John Dewey's ideas to heart and keep school and learning interesting for the students. Great post!
ReplyDeleteYou made a very good point about children being interested in something if they like it. I see alot of children these days who do not care about school because they are bored. Children need to be exposed to new and different things on a daily basis.
